Karina Smirnoff, Brad Penny split: ‘Dancing With the Stars’ pro calls off engagement after postponing big day

GaplekNews--After one year of being engaged, Karina Smirnoff and fiancé Brad Penny have called off their wedding.

“They’re just two different people,” a source told E! of the “Dancing With the Stars” pro and the Detroit Tigers pitcher.

The news comes just weeks after the couple postponed their January wedding, insisting that things were “perfect” between them, but scheduling was off.

“It’s just this season is going so well for me and (‘DWTS’ partner) J.R. Martinez and I want to be able to concentrate 100% here,” Smirnoff, 30, told E! in October. “And at the same time, concentrate on planning the wedding. So together, it’s just impossible.”

Though Smirnoff was seen wearing her engagement ring Saturday in Las Vegas, sources tell E! that the dancer dons the bauble in photo ops only to remove it in private.

The couple, who met in October 2009, announced their engagement one year later. nydailynews
