GaplekNews--Louis Tomlinson has continued his support for X Factor singer Frankie Cocozza, despite opposition from his own fans.

The One Direction star has repeatedly expressed his backing for the controversial Cocozza, who survived the public vote on Sunday night's show.

"Still has great stage presence has the potential to be a star. Get behind Frankie!!" Tomlinson said on Saturday night after the judges panned Cocozza's performance of Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling'.

After the previous week's show, he publicised the number to vote for Cocozza and said: "Please all get behind Frankie. He smashed it tonight... Yes Frankie. A lot of people can sing not a lot of people can own a stage like him!"

When Cocozza had landed in the bottom two a week earlier, Tomlinson said: "Gutted for Frankie but im sure he will come back with a bang! He's a star!"

In response, Twitter users have complained that Tomlinson's backing of Cocozza is not fair on the other acts.

"PLEASE stop telling your fans to keep voting Frankie in," said Paulie Fenty. "He doesn't deserve to be this far in the competition, it's unfair."

Sal Al Suwaidi added: "What I've been trying to say ever since he started planting the idea of saving Frankie! Its not fair!"

Following the result of Sunday's public vote, Rhona quipped: "Either this show is a fix or @Louis_Tomlinson has a very high phone bill."
